What Can A Crazy Guy Teach Us About Starting A Movement?

Movements just happen!  As leaders, we are called to make significant things happen.  And in order to make any thing happen on a large scale, the best way to do it is to start a movement (if you can).  When we look back through history, every significant paradigm shift happened through the critical mass of a “movement.”  If you are called to lead change, or just make something happen, study this video and share what you observe about how “movements” happen.

Here are a few things I learned about starting a movement from watching this video

  1. One person can start a movement.
  2. A movement need not be started by the most skilled member of the movement. Just a member with the willingness to express his or her passion for the movement through committed action.
  3. When beginning your movement and you look around and no one else is joining the dance, just keep dancing. Dance! Dance! And dance some more!
  4. When the one guy who joins your movement slowly fades away, keep going. Be led by your passionate vision, not by what others don’t see.
  5. Before you know it, the people joining your movement won’t even know you started it.
  6. When your movement takes a life of it’s own, just let go. There will be no stopping it.
  7. The very people who are staring at you like you are nuts as you dance alone, will be the very same people dancing the hardest in the end.
